Alexander the Great slept with 'The Iliad' beneath his pillow. Though I’ve never led an army, I am a wanderer. I cradle 'The Odyssey' nights while the moon is waning, as if it were the sweet body of a woman.

About This Quote

Let me tell you about the Odyssey. This is about a hero named Odysseus who after being away for years returns home to find that it has not changed at all. Everything seems the same, but everything isn’t. He is now old and wrinkled, his wife has given birth to a son during his absence, and his son is now old enough to be married.

Odysseus doesn’t want to see his son married off to some girl he doesn’t know so he hires an old man to pretend to be his son for the wedding. The bride knows something is wrong though because she can tell that her fiancé isn’t her real groom. She tries to outsmart him by asking him to reveal himself, but he just smiles and says “My name is nobody.

I have no father, mother, brother or sister. I was born without parents or ancestry. I have lived my entire life alone.” As the story goes on Odysseus eventually reveals himself, but it takes a lot of time and effort for him to do so, which shows how much he loves this woman who loves him back even though she doesn’t know who he is or where he came from.
