About This Quote

Prospero is a character in Shakespeare’s The Tempest. In the play, he is a magician who keeps a magical island called “The Tempest” under his control. One of the characters in the play tells Prospero that he does not think that his house, the other characters in the play, and their lives on the island are very real. Prospero disagrees with this man’s statement and explains that, while his other creations might not be real, this other character is very real because he lives in The Tempest and experiences all of the magic and wonder of the island.
