Her second novel, The Lost Girl, was named one of the best books of 2013 by USA Today, The New York Times Book Review, Wall Street Journal, and ABC. Shelley is also the author of two memoirs: A Girl Named Trouble (which won the PEN Center USA West Literary Award) and The Mapmaker's Daughter. Shelley earned her BFA in studio art from Cal State Fullerton
