Saint Bernards are born in Siberia and the northern reaches of Europe. Saint Bernards were bred in the Alps to pull sleds and, later, to pull carts and yokes. Because of their size and strength, they were also used as guard dogs for royal courts and for people who would travel into rough terrain. They were even used to pull cannons in the Swiss army.

Their enormous size makes them a great choice for families with children. Some of the smaller varieties of Saint Bernard are great pets for older children or adults who enjoy the company of a large dog without worrying about protecting or hurting them.
A Saint Bernard’s coat is short and smooth with a wavy tail and long, thick fur along its back and legs.
It has a long drooping muzzle and huge eyes that give it a kind expression. Its tail is thick and heavy at the end, where it is attached to an organ called a “watch dog” that can detect people or animals approaching from miles away. The tail acts like an antennae to help the dog alert its owner to danger.
Saint Bernards love children and accept all other family members with open paws while being gentle with them too.
They have a laid-back nature while remaining alert, but they rarely bark while indoors because they try not to scare their family members or other household pets. They don’t have an innate fear of strangers because they were bred to be loyal companions to humans from birth through death, so they are always happy to meet new people when they visit their house who have no ill intentions toward them or their owners.
Saint Bernard puppies should be kept indoors until they are 1 year old at least unless they have been raised outside from birth because they were bred to be loyal companions whose sole purpose was to protect humans from harm by keeping watch over buildings throughout the day while sleeping on its master’s bed at night. These dogs need lots of exercise daily because of their size and build, but if you do not provide them with an opportunity to run around outside each day, they can become destructive inside your home if bored from lack of exercise.
Because Saint Bernard owners work hard during the day outside in nature while their dogs stay indoors by their owners’ sides all day long, these dogs get bored easily without any opportunity to exercise unless you take them on walks or playtime sessions that keep them occupied
