Jeremiah Wright is an African American minister, author, orator, and social critic. He was the senior pastor of Liberation Christian Church in Chicago for 25 years before retiring in May 2008. Wright is also a professor of theology at the Chicago Theological Seminary. He is the author of eight books, including Why We Can't Wait: A History of the Black Freedom Struggle (with Michael Eric Dyson), Obama's America: Unmaking America, Destroying Democracy (with David A
Love), and Race Matters. Wright has also written two volumes about his life experiences, God's Words to America (with James H. Cone) and The Way Forward: Beyond Old Boundaries for a New Millennium (with Michael Eric Dyson).
Wright was named Man of the Year by Ebony magazine in 2001 and received the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award in 2006 for his outspokenness on issues of politics and religion in America.
