He received a J.D. from George Washington University Law School in 1976, graduating Order of the Coif. In addition to his work as an attorney, he has also been a writer for many publications including The National Review, The Wall Street Journal, The New Republic, The New York Times Magazine, etc.
He is a past president of the National Student Speech Association and the National Lawyers Guild, former chairman of the board of the Federalist Society, and a member of the American Arbitration Association and the District of Columbia Bar Association.
