Daniel O'Connell, or "The Liberator" was one of the most important figures in nineteenth century Irish history. He was born in Ireland in 1775 and grew up to be a successful barrister at the Irish Bar, but he eventually became more known for his political activities. He was elected M. P
for Kildare in 1802, and served as Chief Secretary for Ireland from 1807 to 1809. During this period he served his country with distinction, organizing local governments in Ireland after the Act of Union of 1800.
