Carl Lotus Becker is a twice-published, internationally known author of seven books on personal growth and spiritual transformation. He has a doctorate in theology from the University of Edinburgh, and a master's degree in counseling psychology from the University of Minnesota. He is a former professor of theology at two Christian universities and a former pastor. His first book, The Spirituality of the Sufis: An Introduction to Islamic Spirituality, was published by HarperOne in 2008
It won the 2007 International Book Award for best introduction to spirituality and was #1 on Amazon's Bestsellers list for spirituality for two weeks. His second book, The Path of Surrender: A Christian Guide to Authentic Living, was published by HarperOne in 2011. It became a bestseller on Amazon and was a finalist for the 2012 International Book Award.
His third book, The Five Levels of Intimacy: How the New Science Reveals Our True Relationships with Others, received wide critical acclaim when it was published by Thomas Nelson in 2015. Its theme is the five levels of intimacy that unite all human beings on earth. It became an international bestseller and was nominated for three prestigious awards.
Also in 2015, his new book on relationships was released by Thomas Nelson titled The Art of Being Alone: The Hidden Benefits of Living Single (also published as Isolation & Solitude).
