Buenaventura Durruti was a Spanish anarchist who was one of the most prominent members of the anarcho-syndicalist movement. During the Spanish Civil War, he organized and lead several columns of fighters under the nom de guerre La Vanguardia ("The Vanguard"). He was the only person to be killed in action during all three years of the war, and he is considered to be one of the war's most prominent military leaders.
