About This Quote

I hate this quote because it’s so wrong. The study in the Washington Post that claimed that women have better verbal skills than men is completely wrong. For one thing, the authors are using 20th century college students as the basis for their research. That means that they are comparing women who are now in their 20s to men who are now in their 20s.

The people who were already adults when this study was conducted are well beyond middle age. For another thing, they are comparing the verbal skills of women today to men ten years ago. This means that they are comparing women who have been talking since childhood to men who have been talking since childhood.

That’s like comparing a toddler to an adult. With all due respect, the authors of this study were simply looking for things that could be used to make money. If that were all that they cared about, then clearly there would be no reason to compare women to men.
