Zilpha Keatley Snyder is a writer and a teacher who has been called the Joan Didion of her generation. Her books have been praised by writers such as John Updike, Richard Ford, and George Saunders. Her first novel, "The Heirs" (published in 1997), was nominated for an Edgar Award. She was born in Des Moines, Iowa, grew up on the east coast, and lives now on the coast of Maine with her husband and two sons.
