Timothy Simpson is a writer, artist and advocate for independent bookstores. His writing career began with the publication of the autobiographical story of his experiences in an independent bookstore in New York City, The Store That Beat Wall Street, in 1986. He is the author of four books: The Store That Beat Wall Street (1986), The Bookseller Who Lost His Soul (2000), The Bookseller's Hall of Fame (2004) and The Bookseller's Creed (2010). In 2009 he founded the First Book Foundation, a nonprofit that supports independent bookstores and authors by providing grants to booksellers and authors who wish to establish new businesses or expand their existing businesses.
