Deutch’s father was a World War II veteran who served in the 89th Infantry Division. He graduated with honors from Miami Dade College with a B.A. in Political Science and was elected to the Miami City Commission in 1982.
While serving on the Commission, he was appointed by Mayor Xavier Suarez to be Director of Development for the Miami-Dade County Parks Department, where he initiated one of the largest capital campaigns of any public agency in the country, raising over $200 million dollars. Mr. Deutch started his business career as an investment banker at Merrill Lynch Capital Markets, where he worked on mergers and acquisitions for large corporations such as IBM, AT&T Corporation, and Westinghouse Electric Corporation.
While at Merrill Lynch Capital Markets, Mr. Deutch oversaw numerous private equity investments where his team closed over $1 billion of equity deals for clients ranging from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies. Mr.
Deutch has been actively involved in many community organizations including Rotary International, United Way of America, the Schooner Foundation for Medical Research and The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Miami.
