Sparky Anderson is a retired Major League Baseball (MLB) player, manager, and team executive. He was the first base coach for the Oakland Athletics during the 1976 World Series and managed the Cincinnati Reds from 1979-1989. He managed the New York Yankees from 1990–2001 and was the manager of the Detroit Tigers (2002–2009). Anderson was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984 and elected to the Major League Baseball All-Century Team in 1999
He is a member of the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame and is a member of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR).
