Saqlain bin mushtaq (صقلين بن مشتاق) (born: 4 March 1952) is a Pakistani writer and film director. He is one of the most respected writers in Urdu literature and has been nominated for several prestigious awards. Saqlain's first novel, Azaad, was published in 1974. In the 1980s he started to write short stories, essays and articles on cinema and literature
He has worked as a film critic for different newspapers and magazines since the 1970s. His books have been translated into many languages including English, Malayalam, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Tamil and Sindhi but some of his works remain untranslated even in Urdu itself. He is a recipient of a number of awards including a number of national awards from Pakistan.
He has also been awarded honorary doctorates from Minhaj University in Karachi and the University of Wales Swansea.
