Sam Mendes is an English film director. He began his directing career by directing short films and music videos, including the UK number-one music video for "Hey Mr. DJ" by Technotronic. His feature debut was American Beauty (1999), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Director and the BAFTA Award for Best Direction and Best Adapted Screenplay
He also won the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directing – Feature Film for Road to Perdition (2002). His next feature, Jarhead (2005), was based on Anthony Swofford's novel of the same name. His film Revolutionary Road (2008), received critical acclaim, including two Oscar nominations including Best Picture.
