R.A. Mathis is a writer, musician, and former musician for the U.S. Marine Corps. Mathis earned his BA in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1992. He earned his Master of Science in business administration from the University of South Carolina in 1996, where he received an honorary doctorate in 2009. He lives with his wife, Sue Nelson, in Greenville, SC, and is the director of the Creative Writing Institute at Greenville Technical College.
