Paul Silver was born in New York City in 1931. He received his A.B. in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1953. He also received an M.B.A
from New York University's Graduate School of Business in 1956. He is a graduate of the American Psychiatric Institute for Psychoanalysis, where he received his diploma, and he is a former member of the Board of Directors of the American Psychoanalytic Institute. He has also served on the editorial boards of six professional journals and has published widely in these areas.
