Paul Nurse was born in 1946 in the small industrial town of Dorset in the UK. He studied medicine at Cambridge, graduating with a distinction in physiology. He is currently Professor of Cell Biology and Head of the Division of Genetics at the University of Cambridge. Paul has an honorary doctorate from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, where he is Chancellor of the University
He is one of the director founders of the Francis Crick Institute in London, UK, which is devoted to creating treatments for life-threatening diseases.
