Patrick Henry Hughes is an American author, best known for his 1929 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. He was born in New York City and educated at Yale. After a brief stint in the army during World War I, he worked for the New Haven Railroad and taught English at several colleges and universities before publishing his first novel in 1929. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz became a worldwide bestseller, and Hughes' books were among the most popular of their time.
