Monica Seles was born in Kranj, Slovenia in 1976, and began playing tennis at the age of 6. She won the junior US Open title in 1991, and became the youngest-ever top-ranked female player in the world after winning her first of 22 WTA titles at Wimbledon in 1992. Seles retired from professional tennis in 1998 with a record of 45–5. Seles won a total of eight Grand Slam singles titles, nine Grand Slam doubles titles, and 62 WTA singles titles during her career. Monica is one of only three women who have won all four Grand Slam singles titles twice. She is also one of just two women to have won all four Grand Slam doubles titles twice, along with Virginia Wade.
