Masaru Ibuka was one of the pioneers of the electronic-music industry and the co-founder of Sony Corporation. Prior to Sony, he was a research scientist at Columbia University and a professor at both the University of California and University of California, Berkeley. Ibuka has been awarded twenty honorary doctorates and has received numerous awards and honors including the National Medal of Technology and Innovation – USA's highest honor – from President George W. Bush – and the World Economic Forum's Global Leadership Award
