Mars Hill is a nonfiction writer and independent scholar who has been a contributing editor to many leading periodicals. He has written extensively about African-American issues in the history of the United States and wrote the critically acclaimed biography, The Fire Next Time: The Medgar Evers Story. In 1998, he received the Outstanding Contributions to Black Studies Award from Howard University. In 2005, he was inducted into the International Black Hall of Fame.
