Marie-Catherine d'Aulnoy (or Madame d'Aulnoy) was born at Saint-Germain-en-Laye on June 4, 1651. She was the daughter of the Comte de Grignan, her mother having been the first wife of the Marquis de Dangeau. After her father's death at the age of thirty, she lived with her stepmother, Madame de Sévigné, at Château de Grignan. She died at Paris on January 7, 1705.
