Margaret Lee Runbeck was born in the mountains of Virginia and lived there until she was six. She moved to Florida when she was ten and finally settled in North Carolina when she was seventeen. She married a man who served in the military, traveled a lot, and gave her a variety of experiences that helped to shape her into a strong woman. During the late 1950's Margaret Lee took a job as a secretary for a publishing firm. She worked there for twenty-six years before retiring. In the early 1970's she entered a writing contest sponsored by New Horizon Publishers.
Her novel, The Homecoming, won first prize. After this book was published she began writing full time and never stopped. Her most recent novel is entitled The Unquiet Grave, which is about a young girl who moves to an old mansion and discovers strange things about its past while she struggles to find out her own ancestry.
