Kit Alloway was born in London and moved to New Zealand at the age of 11. She was educated at Christchurch Girls' High School, Canterbury University (BSc, MSc) and the University of Auckland (PhD). Having worked for many years in the publishing industry, she is now an academic in the school of sociology at The University of Waikato, New Zealand. Her research interests include social inequality, gender relations, inequality and social justice
Her current project, called What's The Matter with Masculinity?, is her first foray into research on masculinity. The aim of the research is to understand how men experience both masculinity and their own vulnerability within society.
