Juan Rulfo (1918–1986) was a Mexican writer. He is best known for the novel "Pedro Páramo" ("Pedro Paramo"), which won the Juan Rulfo Prize in 1955. He was also awarded the International Publishers' Prize from the Independent Committee of Spanish PEN in 1958, and the National Literature Prize from the Ministry of Education in 1962. In 1962, he founded the Juan Rulfo Society, a network of writers and artists devoted to his work.
