John Owen (1616-1703) was a Welsh Congregational minister, judge, and theologian. He is best known as a Puritan theologian, particularly for his work on sin and grace. He was a significant figure in the history of the Puritan revival in England. Owen's theological treatise has been called "one of the most important statements on Calvinism ever made". Owen's biographical details are not yet available from the British Library.

Have I obtained a view of God’s fatherly countenance, that I might behold his face and provoke him to his face? Was my soul washed, that room might be made for new defilements? Shall I endeavor to disappoint the end of the death of Christ? Shall I daily grieve that Spirit whereby I am sealed to the day of redemption?” Entertain thy conscience daily with this treaty.
