While living in the Carey household, John Florio wrote his first novel, The First Part of Fortune (1580), and translated and published Tasso's Jerusalem Delivered (1581). He also wrote and published two more works: The Discovery of a World in the Moone (1583) and The New Atlantis (1583). After Sir George Carey died in 1617, Florio became tutor to Sir Thomas Egerton until his death in 1626.
