John Mather is a former professional hockey player who started playing at age 12. He played his junior hockey in Sarnia, Ontario for the Niagara Falls Flyers. At the age of 18, he was drafted by the New York Rangers in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. He played his first two NHL seasons with the Rangers organization before being traded to the Minnesota North Stars
The following season he was traded back to New York. He played another four seasons with the Rangers organization before being traded to the Los Angeles Kings where he spent the next four years. He also spent one season in Long Island, NY with the NY Islanders organization.
In his final season, Mather played one game with the Detroit Red Wings and one game with their minor league affiliate Adirondack Red Wings. After retiring from hockey he went on to coach youth hockey and raise two daughters before moving to Texas and settling in Lubbock, TX.
