Tworkowski was raised in a family of West Virginia coal miners. She held a full-time job while going to school at night and became a U.S. Navy Reserve Intelligence Specialist after a year in college. Tworkowski was joined in her struggle by brave friends and family who supported her during the most difficult time in her life. In that struggle, Tworkowski discovered the power of kindness, kindness to oneself and kindness to others, through the practice of yoga and meditation, which she shared on social media. Tworkowski eventually recovered from her illness and founded The Kindness Movement in 2016 with the goal of promoting kindness and peaceful activism worldwide through social media, art and activism.
