George E. Vaillant is the founder and director of the Harvard Medical School's Division of Psychiatric Epidemiology and served as president of the American Psychiatric Association from 1985–1987. In 1969 he founded the Menninger Foundation in Topeka, Kansas, which has been renamed the George E. Vaillant Foundation in recognition of his contributions to psychiatry and public health
