Wanderer's first book was a novel, "Sleepless Nights" which was first published in 1945. He has since written eleven more novels and numerous short stories. Later, he became an accomplished songwriter and film script writer which led to the development of his most ambitious project to date: "The Frank Wanderer Story" which is a musical (book with lyrics and music).

The musical premiered Off Broadway in New York City in December of 1996 and ran for nine weeks until February of 1997. The musical will be produced regionally throughout the United States for up to five years after its premiere.
