Ferdinand Foch (1851-1929), was a French general and military theorist. He won the First World War, the most important war of his time, the founder of modern warfare. Foch was one of the most brilliant of all military theorists of his time. He is specifically known for his theory on defense in depth which led to the use of trenches during the first world war.
