Ezra Stiles was a leading educator and pioneer in the field of mental health. He was a professor at Yale University, a founder of the American Institute of Christian Education, and a founder of the American Association for the Advancement of Medical Religion. He founded psychiatric hospitals in New York City and Hartford, Connecticut. He published his treatise on spiritual care, The Soul's Recovery, in 1792.
