E.M. Markoff, born in 1944, is the author of two novels, ten short story collections, and two books of poetry. Her books have been translated into over thirty languages, including Chinese, Korean, Serbian, and Romanian. She has twice won the PEN/Faulkner award for fiction
From 1991 to 2004 she was editor-in-chief of The Paris Review, which has called her one of America's best writers. She lives in New York City with her husband.
