Edward Noyes Westcott (1819–1901) was a prominent English occultist and Freemason. He studied and practiced ceremonial magic and developed a ceremonial system that he called the Order of the Golden Dawn, which was constituted as a Masonic chapter in 1887 by Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers and others. The Golden Dawn system of magic is considered to be an important early example of New Age thought and practice.
