Edward FitzGerald (8 September 1809 – 23 August 1883) was a 19th-century English poet and dramatist. He is best known for his publication in 1859 of the first version of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, which was widely popularised as a children's poem. He is also the author of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, a book of poems from Persia translated into English verse, published in 1859.
