His administration oversaw passage of gun safety legislation and environmental protection initiatives; he created the Education Improvement Fund, which supported reforms in failing schools; and he established a trust fund for public school teachers that provided $1 billion in funding over five years. Rendell went on to serve as a member of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council and is a member of the Board of Advisors for The Simon Wiesenthal Center's Human Dignity Institute. He was named one of America's most influential lawyers by The National Law Journal and Legal Times, and is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation's Leadership Council.
