6 Quotes & Sayings By David Livingstone

David Livingstone was a Scottish missionary, explorer, geographer, ethnographer, botanist, and author. He was a pioneer of modern exploration in Central Africa, the first European to explore the region now known as Zambia, and the first Westerner to traverse much of the African continent. It was David Livingstone who gave the name Africa to this part of the world, in recognition of the fact that it extended over three continents (Africa), and no one had previously called it "Africa." He is remembered for his expeditions in search of the source of the Nile River. The last major expedition in which he participated was that led by Henry Morton Stanley during which he died.

2
For my own part, I have never ceased to rejoice that God has appointed me to such an office. People talk of the sacrifice I have made in spending so much of my life in Africa. Is that a sacrifice which brings its own blest reward in healthful activity, the consciousness of doing good, peace of mind, and a bright hope of a glorious destiny hereafter? Away with the word sacrifice. Say rather it is a privilege. Anxiety, sickness, suffering, or danger, now and then, with a foregoing of the common conveniences and charities of this life, may make us pause, and cause the spirit to waver, and the soul to sink; but let this only be for a moment. All these are nothing when compared with the glory which shall be revealed in and for us. I never made a sacrifice. . David Livingstone
3
Nothing earthly will make me give up my work in despair. David Livingstone
4
All that I am I owe to Jesus Christ, revealed to me in His divine Book. David Livingstone
5
I will place no value on anything I have or may possess except in relation to the kingdom of Christ. David Livingstone
