Cardeno Chaves (Puerto Rico), Ph.D., was the recipient of several national and international academic honors, such as the "Academic Excellence Award", presented by President Jorge Matto, for his work in the field of Philosophy; the "Diplomatic Service Award" for outstanding contribution to the University, presented by President Pedro Rossello, for his exemplary career as an educator, researcher and administrator; the "Public Service Award" for exemplary public service, presented by Governor Rafael Hernández Colón, for his dedicated service to Puerto Rico's educational system. Dr. Cardeno has received several honorary doctorates from universities around the world, among them is his honorary doctorate from Harvard University. He is also a member of several prestigious organizations such as The American Association of Philosophy & Education (AAPE), The Caribbean Philosophical Association (CPA), The Puerto Rican Philosophical Society (SPP).
