Antonin Dvorak (11 March 1841 – 5 December 1904) was a Bohemian composer and conductor of Czech music, considered the father of New Music. He received his basic musical training in Prague, under the tutelage of Josef Mysliveček. Dvorak held this position until his death. Dvorak's vocal works are large scale works with literary connections, while his orchestral works are more eclectic, ranging from Slavic folk themes to program music with an Italianate flavour. His last opera Rusalka was unfinished at his death and has never been performed since.

Dvorak's compositions present a strong national character. His earlier symphonies reflect Czech nationalism while some of his later works display a national Slavonic character, especially from the period from 1894 until World War I.
