However, in 1989, without warning or explanation, Aloysius began to suffer from serious emotional disturbances. Over the next several years, his emotional problems progressed until he became completely incapacitated. He continued to deteriorate until he was unable to function independently, which led him to be institutionalized in November 1993 at the age of 22.

Aloysius developed an interest in writing by collaborating with other residents to write letters that were mailed out periodically requesting donations of money and supplies for their group. This experience inspired Mr. Aloysius so much so that he developed the idea of creating a self-help book for people who thought they had no hope or who needed inspiration to see their lives turn around by using these ancient principles.

Mr. Aloysius spent over two years researching ancient philosophies and schooled himself on some of them while studying these subjects online and through private tutors and mentors while incarcerated at the local jails and prisons for over six months and eventually got himself released from jail after serving five years for armed robbery and carjacking while incarcerated at the Maryland Correctional Institution for Women (MCI-W) in Jessup on April 17, 1996.
