The Soviet Union invaded Poland on 17 September 1939. The invasion sparked a month-long campaign and ended on 6 October with the signing of the German-Soviet pact between Germany and the Soviet Union. Poland was divided into two parts: western Poland, which would be annexed by Germany, and eastern Poland, which was incorporated into the Ukrainian SSR.
