John Gower, one of the best-known poets in the history of England, was a man of many talents. He was also an accomplished playwright, grammarian, and translator. He is remembered mostly for his epic poem “Confessio Amantis,” which describes his love affair with King Henry IV’s queen, Katherine Swynford.
