His First Mate's Log is a short story by Robert A. Heinlein, published in the December 1956 issue of Galaxy Science Fiction. The story is set in the future on the planet of Trantor, which at that point had become a Galactic Empire ruled by an Emperor who had assumed absolute power. The story tells of Trantor's first female starship captain, "Captain Billy" Keeler, whose crew are members of the "Explorers Guild".

They are sent to the planet of Beta Ceti to investigate what they believe is a new star system, but they discover it is in fact an alien spaceship that has crashed on the planet's surface. The aliens are discovered by Captain Keeler's crew, and she obtains their log which reveals that they have been enslaved by evil beings known as "the Geth". The story ends with the mysterious being known as "The Geth One" escaping from his prison with Captain Keeler's First Mate "Cressen", who at this point is running for his life.
