So, Belle, what's new today?" Dad, " I said, grasping his hands and looking directly into his eyes. "I'm in the deepest love that has ever occurred in the history of the world." Gosh, Belle. When someone asks you 'What's new?' the correct answer is 'Not much'. Besides, isn't it a little soon to cut yourself off from the rest of your peers, depending on a boyfriend to satisfy your social needs as opposed to making friends? Imagine what would happen if something forced that boy to leave! I'm imagining pages and pages would happen - with nothing but the names of the months on them. . The Harvard Lampoon
About This Quote

"Not much" is a boring answer to the question "What's new?" because it's vague. It's also not very helpful when you're trying to meet new people, which is why it's best to have an explanation for why you're cutting yourself off from the rest of your peers. If you've fallen in love with someone, your friends are going to ask you about him - so if you don't have anything interesting to say, they'll figure out pretty soon that things aren't going well. So, even though "What's new?" isn't the most exciting way to answer the question, it's still better than the alternative.
