Civilization is vastly overrated. This quote is very accurate. It’s true, civilization can be an underlying source of trouble, but there are many benefits. The problem with civilization is that it tends to be so focused on ourselves and ourselves alone, while ignoring the rest of the world.
We forget that there are people still out there hungry for our goods and services, while we live in luxury. We forget that some people live in poverty while we enjoy the comforts of home and family all around us. We forget that some people’s homes burn down just because they cannot afford fire insurance while we sleep safely in our homes.
But all of this can be remedied if we learn to look beyond ourselves and to acknowledge the needs of others around us.
