So you see, the most vital question then becomes, what type of woman will conquer our hero? If she be of poor quality, he’ll become a slave. But if she be great, then her greatness will elevate the man to greater heights than he could ever have attained on his own. Bryan M. Litfin
About This Quote

In the classic Shakespeare play "Romeo and Juliet", Romeo and Juliet's parents, who are not married to each other, both comment on the question of what kind of woman will conquer their son. Both parents' world view is that the young couple should be married to someone that they love. Both believe that marrying someone they do not love, or marrying a man who loves a woman other than them, would doom their son to failure. Shakespeare's play also brings up the question of what makes a person great.

The parents believe that if a person is not great in comparison to another, then nothing can elevate them above the other person. In other words, you can't become great if you don't have greatness in you already. In essence, greatness is something that comes from within and must be cultivated from within.
