About This Quote

There’s something about putting on a pair of skates, and getting out there and moving like nobody else can. Freedom is a word that comes to mind. In the spring of 1997, Todd's brother, Ryan, who was then living in Boston, gave Todd skates for Christmas. At that time, Todd was about to begin his freshman year at Harvard University.

When he opened the box of skates he was a bit confused because he wasn't sure how to use them. But finally, with a little guidance from his brother, he got going. Then he found out one day that he had been skating everywhere with no one around him.

He started going to the local pond and after a while realized that it was one of his favorite places in Cambridge to skate around alone. He also discovered that when he skated around the pond all by himself, he usually fell down twice as often as when people were watching him. But when there weren't any other people around him he could skate much better than ever before.

That's when it hit him: There was something about putting on that pair of skates and getting out there and moving like nobody else could. Freedom is a word that comes to mind.
